The countdown to 2024 has begun, and like most of us, I’m riding the cliche “New Year, New Me” wave with some 2024 design resolutions. These resolutions focus on my graphic designer career rather than my (failed) dedication to flossing or eating salads, hopefully with more success.

So, what’s on the docket for 2024?

Boosting My Illustrator Game

I’ve spent the majority of my design experience in InDesign and Photoshop. While I’ve been branching out into Illustrator on a much more regular basis with logo design and vector-based assets, I still have much to learn. The Illustrator projects I see on Instagram are so cool, and I’m excited to expand my skills!

Exploring Uncharted Territories

One aspect of branding I haven’t spent ANY time with is packaging. I’ve seen a new tool in Illustrator Beta specifically for packaging dimensions, so this fits perfectly with my first resolution. We’re channeling all the Illustrator time this coming year.

Breaking Up With My Screen (Just a Bit)

I spend a lot of time looking at screens. Whether doing my design work or playing around with digital art, it’s all screen-based. For 2024, I want to return to some hands-on art: painting, colored pencils, pastels, etc. I feel like I’ve learned a lot about shadows and highlights working in Procreate, and I’d like to see how I can translate that knowledge into physical artwork instead of digital.

And there you have it–my 2024 design resolutions wrapped up in a neat, ambitious (possibly overambitious?) bow. It’s going to be an adventure–and probably a messy one. So, here’s to embracing the chaos of creativity in 2024!
